Let's plan to meet at 6:00 PM, at
the Neue Museum, ( Fifth Avenue at 86th Street) one of the newer, less
traveled museums, so it will be easier to find each other. For those
of you who haven't been, it is much fun, thousands of people, many street
performers and mucho music. Note that once we start, it is hard to hang
out together as a group since there is so much going on, but it is sure
nice to meet at the beginning and to connect with dear friends.

Our April Field Trip will be to the Hartsdale Pet
Cemetary, at 10:00 AM, on Sunday, April 2nd.

being the first and oldest Pet Cemetary in the country, with a crematory,
and many interesting memorial stones along with their engravings.
It is located on Central Avenue, about two miles
south of the Westchester County Center, on the west side of the street
(a few hundred yards north of Hartsdale Avenue. There is usually ample
parking right in front of the Cemetary.

Greenwich Village, NYC
@ 11AM
Saturday, November 12, 2005
In hopes of catching some of this
wonderful, milder weather, our next field trip is scheduled for Saturday,
November 12th... to Washington Square Park, in Greenwich Village, NYC..
The plan is for us to meet on the east side of
the big fountain, at 11:00AM, and to take advantage of the many photo
ops that frequently are found in, near, and around that park. Bringing
a couple of sandwiches is always a good idea, although the possiblity
of sitting all together is very slim.
Depending on "what's happening", folks
should feel free to wander McDougal and Bleeker Sts, Broadway, and SOHO,
just a ten minute walk to the south.
Note that there is a wonderful Green/Farmer's Market
every Saturday at Union Square on 14th Street. A number of our members
plan to get there early, (for sight seeing, buying, and photo ops) and
then to meet at the fountain at 11 AM.
There will be no rain date for this trip.

good walking shoes!). There is also a Museum with more sculpture inside.

anytime at about 1:00pm.
Driving Directions: I-87 north (NY Throughway, west of the Hudson) to
exit 16. Then, Rt 32 north about ten miles. Follow signs to Storm King
art Center. Turn left onto Orrs Mills Rd (turn occurs just after crossing

Arts Walk
Hudson, NY
Saturday, October 8, 2005 at 10:30 AM
Our October field trip will be to
Hudson, NY, on Saturday, October 8th. They are having an Annual Arts Walk,
with the work of about 180 artists, including photographers, on display
in various store fronts in this small town, but mostly along Warren Street,
which is essentially the main street in Town. The venue is such that it
will go on rain or shine, and runs from September 30th through October
9th, and from 11AM till 5PM.
Thousands of people are expected, and it would
probably be worthwhile to plan to arrive at about 10:30 am to improve
the chances of finding nearby parking. Warren Street runs from the railroad
on the west, for about 3/4 mile to Route 9 in the east. The expectation
is that there will be no parking on Warren St itself, but on the street
parking should be available on side and nearby streets. Also note that
it would be a short walk to the exhibits from the train station itself
for those who prefer to come by train.
Maps showing which exhibits are where will be available
at the Columbia County Council on the Arts office, at 209 Warren Street
(phone-1-518-671-6213). This would be a good meeting place for us, and
I'll plan to be there by 10:30 AM.
A possible spot to meet for lunch is the "Mexican
Radio" restaurant, at 537 Warren Street (1-518-828-7770), highly
recommended by a "local", and very large. My best guess would
be to meet there for lunch at 12:30PM.
The trip is long enough that carpooling with friends
would be worthwhile. The timing is such that some leaf color changes should
be evident too, along with some cooler and crisper days. With luck on
the weather, and the opportunity to just hang out together, we should
all have a grand day!
Driving directions from lower Westchester:
SPRAIN BROOK PKWY N becomes TACONIC STATE PKWY. Continue North to Route
82 , well north of Poughkeepsie, above Lake Taghonic. Take the RT-82 exit,
west, toward ANCRAM / HUDSON. NY-82 becomes US-9 / NY-23. Continue north
on US 9. Make a left from US 9, onto WARREN ST. . (Note it is possible
that Warren st has been turned into a pedestrian "mall", in
which case just go via adjacent streets.Warren street runs northwest from
route 9, extending to the railroad tracks, altogether about one half mile
to 3/4 mile.) Driving time from White Plains is est at 1 hour, 45 minutes;
distance about 95 miles.

Wave Hill
Saturday, September 10, 2005 at 9 AM
The September field trip will be to
WAVE HILL, a 28 Acre public garden overlooking the Hudson River (not on
the river, but close). Saturday mornings are free, when doors open at
9:00 AM untill Noon. There is a cafe on the grounds. (Note that regular
hours are 9-5:30, Tuesday through Sunday, through October 14.)
Directions provided by Wavehill:
From Westchester County and points north: Take the Saw Mill River Parkway/Henry
Hudson Parkway southbound. (The Saw Mill becomes the Henry Hudson at the
City line.) Take Exit 22, 254th Street. Turn left at the stop sign. Turn
left at the traffic light onto Riverdale Avenue/Henry Hudson Parkway service
road. Turn right at 249th Street and proceed to the Wave Hill Gate.
Tripod use is restricted, and is not allowed in
the Greenhouse, nor in two other areas designated as the "Wild Garden",
and the "Flower Garden". Tripods are allowed on the remainder
of the property.
Picnicking is possible, with tables available
at the Glyndor Gallery Picnic Area.. A cafe with limited fare will also
be found on the grounds.
I'm suggesting we meet at 9:00AM to take advantage
of the morning light...and to improve chances of getting a parking space
on the grounds.

Dahesh Museum of Art and the Central
Park Zoo
Sunday, April 10, 2005
Our next field trip will be on Sunday,
April 10, 2005*, to the Dahesh Museum, relatively new and unknown , located
between 56 and 57th streets on the west side of Madison Avenue, in Manhattan.
Admission is regularly $9.00, and just $4.00 for seniors (62+) and students.
The higlight that draws us is called
First Seen, photographs of the worlds peoples, taken 1840
to 1880. Note that this is just a few years after photography was invented,
and includes 250 photographs , that "offer our earliest glimpses
of men and women on every continent except Antartica".
A gallery tour begins at 1:00 PM,
so we'll plan to meet at the ticket booth (downstairs) at about 12:45
so that those of us who would like to join the tour can do that.
Afterwords, weather permitting, many
of us will wander up to the Central Park Zoo, just about 10 blocks north
on Fifth Ave, to take advantage of any photo "ops" that may
appear.
